About the Artist
Peter Hagenaars is a contemporary fine artist from the Netherlands, known for his bold brushwork, atmospheric compositions, and emotionally charged visual storytelling. His work blends classical sensibilities with a modern, expressive language.
Born in Bergen op Zoom (1939) and trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Hagenaars dedicated 35 years to the commercial world before fully committing to his painting practice. His paintings have been exhibited in galleries and private collections across Europe, and he is now expanding his presence into the United States.
Artistic Approach
“My goal is to paint not what I see, but what I feel. Each work is a dialogue between intuition and structure—a balance between chaos and control.”

01
Concept & Emotional Direction
Each painting begins with a feeling rather than a fixed plan, setting the tone for the entire work.
02
Layering & Texture
Multiple layers of paint build depth, contrast, and complexity on the surface of the canvas.
03
Gesture & Refinement
Broad, expressive strokes define the energy of the piece, followed by careful compositional balancing.
